Just for context I'm not actually at MWC I'm in it! if you don't understand this you've not read yesterdays blog so shame on you for that!
No, me and Mrs Mallard are sat at home with a cuppa tea watching cash in the attic and listening to all the stories of new products, sore feet, bad tea (who goes to Barcelona and orders tea!!) but great coffee and then bringing it together on here for ya faces!
So, highlights for me from the first day and in no specific order other than this is how my brain poured it all out ...
Last year it was the Lenovo transparent laptop concept, I saw straight through that to be honest! now this year we have the Lenovo that thinks its a Tesla and by that I don't mean it'll drive you to the mother in laws by itself ( I hate you for that Tesla!) and at breakneck speed. No, I mean unlike other laptops that when you open up the clamshell it reveals a screen which is the same size as the footprint of the device, NO! this is a product of witchcraft and alchemy, when you open up the clamshell it reveals a screen TWICE twice size (ish) of the devices footprint!!
The Lenovo ThinkBook 'codename flip' really?? Flip is that the best codename you could think of or were you on a EasyJet from Stanstead and realised you still hadn't done your codename homework so had to come up with something! ... nailed it!
Solar powered phones, all the power accessory manufacturers roll over uneasily in their beds, yes it's true the wizardry continues into the chargyness of phones and makes them more chargy!
Oh hang on lets all breath again, it's only 2w so chargy things are still required, sadly the technology is not for sale, it's just to point out that it exists ... great work guys, your CFO is as happy as a happy thing on a happy day!
Now how many of you lovely lot can remember the remarkable Samsung S4 Zoom? and named it a Phamera, yes that's right not only did we have to put up with Android Jelly Bean (remember when Android named all its babies after confection? well at least its better than X Æ A-12 I'll leave that one to you to work out! but we were also gifter a phone by Samsung that had a behemoth of a camera lens fixed onto it like a barnacle. Still available at your local eBay store today.
Well now Xiaomi have unveiled MOS No, calm down all you dance lovers and its not a mash up with Ministry of Sound, this is Modular Optical System?? this, not too heavy, easy to handle device allows the user it attached a small compact camera to the magnetic ring on the back of the device, which this writer guesses could lead to other magnetic connection options in the future ... way to go Xiaomi I think you get the picture!
Whilst were on the subject of the love child of a smartphone and a camera, we bring you along with our lovely friends at Xiaomi again the Xiaomi 15 Ultra What? I hear you say not more picturyness, be calm! this device is in our realm of available bandwidth to understand no magnetic wizardry here I say! this is a really good looking smartphone which has a good nod of noddyness towards the design language of cameras of old when you loaded a film reel in the dark... ask your Grandad!
This really is a great looking phone, with heaps of nostalgic design and a banging spec including a Snapdragon 8 Elite and 16GB of lovely RAM, I like this but at €1,499 will it prize you lot away from Samsung or fruit based phone flagship devices?... let's see how things develop! And if you're reading this Xiaomi yes I'd love one please!
Can we please talk about AI (which I presume is short for some fella called Alan) who is everywhere, I mean come on AI this is not about you, this an annual tech fest only bettered by IFA Oh no there you go I've set my stall out now! however fella, you are a mystery, an enigma and very very clever plus you get everywhere apparently you are in my phone, my Alexa, my car but, why do you need to be in my toaster? Please have some respect and leave me and my wholemeal thick sliced to ourselves!
And in a similar vein, we have pulled enough pork now so can we all please stand down!
